You are required to create an account on Global Sports platform. Once you are signed up and logged in, you can add your campaign via the “Raise Sports Capital” button.
All campaigns are vetted by Global Sports before they are published in order to ensure that they are genuine and meet all of our criteria. Vetting helps us to maintain the quality of the campaigns available to Funders on the platform and Fundees a higher possibility of successfully receiving the full contributions they require. There is no guarantee that your campaign will be accepted.
It depends on the type of concept, prototype or product. Not all campaigns succeed in raising money using the crowdfunding approach. The time it takes to complete a successful campaign can vary widely, but you should expect that it will take a minimum of sixty (60) days to complete.
In order to protect Funders, you may be required to reach a minimum campaign target. Therefore, contributions are not finalized until you raise enough money to meet the campaign target. When contributions are initiated through Global Sports, the money is held securely in an independent escrow account. Once all the closing conditions have been met, the money is released to the you and the Funders will receive the Perks which should be delivered within the timeframe specified in the campaign. If the closing conditions are not met, and the Funders do not receive the perks specified in the campaign, contributions will be returned to Funders. Global Sports never receive or takes custody of contributions at any point during the campaign process.
In the event that your campaign meets or exceeds the maximum funding target prior to the campaign closing, other Funders will still be able to make a contribution to the campaign if you switch to GS HomeRun®.
In the event your campaign meets the maximum funding target prior to the campaign closing, you will be able to increase the funding target and extend the closing date and will be featured as a GS HomeRun® campaign.
GS Donations® are available to nonprofit, charitable and other cause-related fundraising campaigns. Funders are free to make contributions but will not receive a Perk in return.
No, your campaign will not be viewable until it has been vetted and met all the requirements to be published as a vetted campaign.
Yes. You may set contribution minimums during the campaign setup process.
Information on your profile page is available to the public. We encourage social and public consumption of your campaigns public content. You can control what Funders and the public can view.
A Fundee will typically join Global Sports and launch a campaign with a target in mind in order to turn their concept into a prototype and launch the product to market. You should have already determined the costs to manufacture and launch your product to market.
No, there are no limits on the number of Funders who make a contribution to your campaign. You can effectively limit the number of Funders by setting contribution minimums or a maximum number of Perks that are available.
You should create one – even if it is a simple 1-2 minute, homemade video of the founders discussing their vision and business plan. Early-stage investing is a very personal endeavor and evaluation of the management team is a cornerstone of the due diligence undertaken by any investor.
If you create a campaign that is successfully funded, Global Sports (and our payment partners) collect the following fees:
- 2.5% for GS Donations® (to 501(c)3 organizations) based on the total amount of capital raised.
- 3% for GS Donations® (to non-5019(c)3 organizations) based on the total amount of capital raised.
- 5% for all other campaigns based on the total amount raised.
The fees detailed above do not include any fees from our payments partners. Our payment partners’ fees may vary slightly based on your location.
There are a number of tools built into the Global Sports platform that will allow you to connect and communicate with potential Funders.
Everyone can sign up and make a contribution on Global Sports.
We generally accept everyone, however, you may be restricted from making certain campaign contributions depending on the jurisdiction in which you reside and the laws of that jurisdiction.
The minimum and maximum campaign contributions are determined by the Fundee.
Yes. We allow Funders to choose to not publicly disclose their campaign contributions.
Global Sports does not charge Funders fees, however, depending on how you make contributions, for example by credit card, you may be charged fees by our payment partners. Our payment partners’ fees may vary slightly based on your location.
Each user must identify specific information about themselves and specify which of the accredited Funder requirements they meet. When making a contribution, each Funder must again represent and warrant that they are an accredited Funder. An “Accredited Funder” is defined by the Securities and Exchange Commission in Rule 506a of the Securities Act of 1933 to include someone who meets one of the following requirements:
- Have individual net worth or joint net worth with your spouse exceeding $1 million.
- Have income exceeding $200,000 in each of the past 2 years and expect the same this year.
- Have income (with your spouse) exceeding $300,000 in each of the past 2 years and expect the same this year.
- Invest on behalf of a VC firm or other registered investment company.
- Invest on behalf of a business with $5 million in assets or in which all the equity owners are accredited.Any entity in which all of the equity owners are accredited.
A “Non-Accredited Funder” is any individual or entity that does not meet the definition of an accredited Funder. Both accredited and non-accredited Funders can make campaign contributions on Global Sports.
The contribution process can generally be described as follows:
- You must first create a free account.
- Once you identify a potential campaign, you should review the terms of the campaign.
- Once you are comfortable with the campaign terms, you can contribute by clicking on the “Make Contribution” button located on the Fundee profile page.
- Follow the steps to complete your contribution.
Once you confirm your contribution, the funds will be transferred to an escrow account for holding until the campaign is closed.
If you find that you are more comfortable reviewing the contribution process with us, please Contact Us and we can facilitate an offline transaction.
Once the campaign closes, you will receive confirmation of success and acceptance of your contribution. In the case of an unsuccessful campaign or a canceled contribution by yourself, the proposed contribution will be canceled and returned to you.
Campaigns listed on Global Sports are high-risk opportunities. Contributing to startups and small businesses is inherently risky, and standard company risk factors such as execution and strategy risk are often magnified at the early stages of a company. Contributing smaller amounts across a larger number of opportunities is a good practice in the private markets just as it is in the public markets.
For additional information on risk, please visit our Risk Factors.
Each campaign will detail the estimated timeline to deliver the perk to you. These timelines are set by the Fundee and not Global Sports. The timeline may vary based on the type of campaign. Delivery of the Perk may take longer if you are located outside of the United States of America and the Funder is responsible for delivery of all perks. You will not receive a perk of a GS Donations® contribution unless otherwise stated.
Global Sports does not make investment recommendations and no communication, through this website or in any other medium should be construed as a recommendation for any campaign on or off this platform. Crowdfunding is speculative and involves a high degree of risk and those Funders who cannot afford to lose their entire contribution should not use our services. Fundees seeking startup funding tend to be in earlier stages of development and their business model, prototypes, products and services and may not yet be fully developed, operational or tested in the public marketplace. There is no guarantee that the terms of a campaign are accurate or in agreement with the market or industry valuations. The most sensible strategy for crowdfunding may include a balanced portfolio of different startups. Startups should only form part of your overall portfolio.
The identities of the Fundees are all verified through a third party service and we mandate that each company provide their articles of incorporation (or similar documentation) as part of our vetting process. Each Funder, however, is ultimately responsible for conducting their own independent due diligence and should only make contributions which fall in their comfort zone.
We cannot give tax advice, and we encourage you to talk with your accountant or tax advisor before making a campaign contribution.
You can review the campaign. Depending on the type of campaign you can also message the Fundee directly.
All campaigns are vetted by Global Sports which means they have successfully gone through our due diligence process prior to being published in order to ensure that they are genuine and meet all of our criteria. Vetting helps us to maintain the quality of the campaigns available to you. Our process includes:
- Information that shows the Fundee has incorporated a company or taken steps necessary to incorporate a company in its state of the organization and that the company is in good standing.
- Disclosure of who is behind the operations and strategy of the company, along with their previous related experience.
- Have the legal authority to engage in its business activities.
- Product overview, stage of development.
- Demonstrated traction (e.g. revenue, pre-sales, purchase orders, signed contracts, media coverage, awards, etc.)
- Intellectual property.
- General Considerations.
The foregoing process does NOT guarantee that any campaign will be successful or that you will receive the perk stated.
The foregoing summarizes our standard process. However, each diligence review is tailored to the nature of the campaign, so the aforementioned process is not the exact process for Fundee.
Completing the vetting process does NOT guarantee that the company has no outstanding issues or that problems will not arise in the future.
While the foregoing process is designed to identify material issues, there is no guarantee that there will not be errors, omissions, or oversights in the due diligence process or in the work of Global Sports.
